An absolute necessity in rough wave conditions! Level up your skills in balancing and rolling your kayak. Single session or a series of practice classes. With experienced & qualified instructors in a safe environment.
You avoid capsizing and separating from your boat: back to upright paddling position in seconds. No help needed from others, you self-rescue.
A technical manoeuver that, let's be honest, looks really cool! Necessary to level up your skills & become an advanced paddler.
Rolls are frequently used in slalom and wildwater kayaking, as well as kayak polo. If you were to venture into these other disciplines, you'll start with an advantage.
All our classes are on the sea: we'll start in a sheltered harbour, but will also make you practice in wave conditions! After all, that's the whole point of doing the roll!
Bracing techniques to maintain your balance and being able to roll your kayak in case of capsize is an essential technique required before venturing out into rougher sea conditions. A kayak roll allows you to pop yourself back to the surface, while staying in the cockpit, in just seconds, applying certain paddle movements and pressure on the boat from your body.
Anyone preparing for a longer journey or kayaking expedition at sea must learn this technique and be able to perform it instinctively. In rough wave conditions, separating oneself from the boat and climbing back is not ideal: you loose time, expose yourself to the elements for a prolonged time (in case of cold water conditions), and you will need the help of a companion.
The Greenland roll gives you independence. It is a necessary first step to advanced level sea kayaking. In our class you can try doing the roll with differently shaped paddles (Euroblade/wing or Greenland paddle) to see which one suits you and your paddling style best. We recommend practicing the roll as much as you can during the warmer months, but we are here to help you achieve your goals should you choose to learn in winter.
